Things to Remember to Safely Mow Your Lawn

Mowing the lawn is an essential task for anyone who has a yard to manage. While it may seem like a simple and straightforward chore, there are risks of injury and damage if the proper precautions aren’t considered. Each year, thousands of people are injured while mowing their lawns due to accidents that could have easily been prevented and our team at Castongia Tractor wants you to stay safe! In this blog post, we will discuss some of the things to remember to safely mow your lawn.

Wear Appropriate Clothing

Always wear protective clothing while mowing your lawn. This includes long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toe shoes. Avoid wearing loose-fitting clothes that could get caught in the mower blades.

Clear the Area

Before starting the mower, clear the area of any debris, rocks, or toys that could get caught in the blades and become dangerous projectiles. This also includes checking for hidden objects like tree stumps or large rocks that could damage the mower.

Check the Mower

Inspect the mower before use to ensure it is in good working condition. Check for loose or damaged parts, and make sure the blades are sharp and properly adjusted.

Keep Children and Pets Away

Keep children and pets away from the area while mowing. Children should never ride on or operate the mower, and pets should be kept indoors or in a safe, fenced area.

Use Caution on Slopes

When mowing on slopes, use extra caution. Always mow across the slope, never up and down. If the slope is too steep, consider using a push mower instead of a riding mower.

Turn Off the Mower

Never leave the mower unattended while it is running. Always turn off the mower and wait for the blades to stop rotating before leaving the area.

Know Your Limits

If you have a large lawn or a lot of obstacles, consider hiring a professional lawn care service or make sure you have a mower that can handle the job. Ask our sales professionals about proper acreage coverage and available features that can assist you with the mowing process.
